Matthew X. James is a Barrister at the offices of James McCall Panunto. He was one of the founding members of Machida Shewchuk James, the predecessor to James McCall Panunto, a litigation firm formed in 2010.

Previously, Matthew practiced at the firm of Machida Mack Shewchuk Meagher LLP, which he joined as an associate in February of 2007. Prior to this, he was an associate at the Calgary offices of a medium sized regional firm, where he completed his articles of clerkship in 2005 and continued on to develop a general litigation practice.

Matthew maintains a general and commercial litigation practice.

Matthew regularly appears before all levels of court in Alberta, including the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and the Alberta Court of Appeal. He has also appeared before the Federal Court of Canada, as well as various administrative tribunals such as the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, the Workers Compensation Board, various professional disciplinary tribunals and the Alberta Human Rights Commission.

Stephen is a partner with James McCall Panunto after joining its predecessor, Machida James McGurk, as a partner in 2013.

Previously, Stephen practiced as an associate at one of Calgary’s premiere boutique litigation firms, and before that was called to the bar in Quebec after completing his articles in Montreal with Robinson Sheppard Shapiro LLP in 2005.

Stephen regularly appears before all levels of court in Alberta, including the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and the Alberta Court of Appeal. While practicing in Quebec, Stephen also regularly appeared before the Cour du Québec and Cour supérieure du Québec. Stephen has developed a general, commercial litigation practice, with a focus on builder’s liens and construction law. Stephen’s practice also includes corporate commercial disputes, estate litigation, employment law, internet defamation and debt recovery, including enforcement of foreign judgments and credit report disputes.

Upon graduation, Mr. McCall completed his articles with a prominent personal injury law firm from 2004 until 2009. From 2009 until 2016 Ryan operated his own practice, McCall & Associates.

Ryan has appeared before every level of Court in Alberta and has made appearances before the Appeals Commission for The Alberta Workers Compensation Board, the Alberta Transportation Safety Board, as well numerous hearings with respect to Indian Residential School Settlements.

Brad Findlater joined James McCall Panunto’s predecessor firm in July of 2013 after being admitted to the Alberta Bar and the Manitoba Bar that year. Prior to joining the firm, Brad completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree (Psychology) from the University of Calgary before receiving his J.D. in law at the University of Manitoba, and completing his articles with a Crown Corporation in Manitoba.  Brad maintains a diverse litigation practice, acting for both individuals and corporations in a variety of different civil and commercial disputes. Brad appears regularly in all levels of Court in Alberta, including Provincial Court, Queen’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal, and has also been involved in quasi-judicial and administrative proceedings within various organizations, in addition to the Alberta Human Rights Commission.  
Brad’s approach to resolving disputes aims at finding a process which suits each client’s needs, balancing the efficiency and economics of each dispute to determine which approach will lead to the best possible result. This includes one or more of the following procedures: Provincial Court, Queen’s Bench, mediation, arbitration, conciliation, and Judicial Dispute resolution.
As an active participant in the Alberta Limited Legal Services Project, Brad is willing to assist clients on a limited retainer basis for some services such as drafting court documents or making court appearances, more details of which can be discussed during a free consultation.

Stefanie grew up in northern Saskatchewan and then made her way to Saskatoon to pursue her post-secondary education. She completed both her undergraduate studies and her J.D. with the University of Saskatchewan. During her time at law school Stefanie was involved in many groups and clubs including the Corporate Law Club and the USask Outlaws, she also ran the school’s annual charity variety show, Legal Follies, every year she was a student. Following the completion of her J.D. in 2015 Stefanie made the journey west to Alberta. Stefanie came to Machida James McCall, the precursor firm to James McCall Panunto, after having completed her articles of clerkship with two smaller Alberta firms. Having worked with sole practitioners in the past Stefanie has had the opportunity to work closely with clients in order to meet their needs.

Prior to pursuing a career in law Stefanie spent several years as a health and weight loss coach. During her time at law school Stefanie had the opportunity to participate in several hands-on opportunities including courses on arbitration, business skills and risk management. In addition, she participated in, and won, negotiation competitions and she has been able to use those skills to achieve success for her clients.

When not at work Stefanie enjoys volunteering, cooking and playing with her pets.
